Big Bite Baits’ Real Deal Shad

by Ned Kehde   |  August 26th, 2013 0

A Midwest finesse angler posted a note on the Finesse News Network, saying that he thought that his some of colleagues would be interested in examining Big Bite Baits’ three-inch Real Deal Shad.

It is a new soft-plastic swimbait that was introduced to the angling world at the International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trades at Las Vegas on July 9-12. Before that introduction, it was field tested by professional bass anglers such as Dean Rojas of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, Jeff Kriet of Ardmore, Oklahoma, and Russ Lane of Prattville, Alabama

According to the folks at Big Bite Baits, the tail of the Real Deal Shad creates a different swimming action than can be achieved with a boot- or paddle-styled tail. It is a twin-tail design, and when the bottom segment moves to left, the top segment moves to the right and vise versa. It exhibits what Rojas calls a natural swimming action. Another attractive feature in Rojas’ eyes is that it tracks or swims straight.

During their field-testing endeavors, Rojas, Kriet and Lane found that whenever the largemouth, smallmouth bass and spotted bass were foraging on baitfish, such as bluegill, green sunfish, herring, and shad, the Real Deal Shad was effective.

Power anglers will wield the four- and five-inch options on a weighted swimbait hook. But Midwest finesse anglers will opt for the three-incher and affix it to a finesse jig, such as a Gopher Tackle’s Mushroom Head Jig.

It is available in eight hand-painted colors: shad, green gizzard shad, SS shad, light hitch, gizzard shad, blue back herring, golden hitch and bluegill.

The suggested retail price for a clam package of four three-inch Real Deal Shad is $4.99.
