Zoom Bait Company's Z Drop Worm

Zoom Bait Company's Z Drop Worm

1363A Finesse News Network member said that we have been remiss in not featuring Zoom Bait Company's Z Drop Worm in the Midwest finesse column, and this angler was correct, indeed.

The folks at Zoom proclaim that it was made for only one purpose, which is to inveigle tentative and unresponsive largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, and spotted bass.

It is four inches long and has a round head. Its slender and supple torso is segmented into three sections, which is graced with a slick, polished, and shining skin. Its belly is flat. Its back is embellished with a raised ridge that extends from the middle of its torso to the tip of its tail. And the tail is flat and possesses the shape of a teardrop. Some anglers describe it as a cross-tail worm.  In the water, it quivers and undulates provocatively when an angler executes an extremely delicate twitch of the rod tip, and the folks at Zoom proclaim that it will even move subtly and beguilingly when an angler employs a deadstick presentation.

Zoom designed it for drop-shot applications, but ardent Midwest finesse anglers will opt to rig it on either a 1/32- or 1/16-ounce mushroom-style jig, which they have found to be a far more fruitful tactic than employing a drop-shot rig.

The Z Drop Worm is  available in the following colors: Green Pumpkin, Green Weenie, Morning Dawn, Purple Smoke, Seedless Watermelon, and Watermelon Red. It is impregnated with salt.

Some drop-shot anglers have noted that it is fragile and unable to withstand many donnybrooks with feisty largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, or spotted bass, but the Z Drop Worm's durability should increase a tad when it is employed on a mushroom-style jig rather than on a drop-shot rig.

The price for  a package of 15 varies from $3.79 to $4.49.
