Maximizing Solunar Tables

|

In some waters, particularly ponds, catch rates often peak around majors and minors.

Solunar effects can be less obvious in larger waters where baitfish movements and feeding opportunities vary more over the course of the day. Solunar theorists were correct when they identified a detectable solunar force that can affect fish behavior and angling catch rates. But they’ve apparently become so enraptured by these effects that they’ve become overconfident in predicting the best times to fish. Solunar force routinely motivates only a small portion of predator populations. Its effect is erratic because the solunar cycle isn’t a controlling influence. It’s only one of many environmental factors that may influence feeding.

To get the most from solunar tables: (1) be on the water at least an hour before a predicted solunar period; (2) experiment with various locations and presentations appropriate to the body of water, species sought, and Calendar Period; (3) understand how solunar forces and other environmental and weather factors affect fish; and (4) don’t leave until at least two hours after the last major or minor you intend to fish.”
