My friend Alex and I had decided to try ice fishing this year for the first time and got out on a private lake. We had read a lot and watched a lot of videos, so we thought we knew what we were doing. Well we got out on the ice and were out there fishing for about two hours before the monster hit my line. All we had gotten thus far, was a small 12" carp Alex had pulled through somehow. (the only carp I have seen while ice fishing!) Minutes after the carp, I got a solid hit on my line, and the fight was on! It took about 5 minutes to get in this monster and a small ultralight rod and 6 lbs. test line! When it came up through the hole finally, we didn't think that it would fit through the 7" hole we had drilled! Then as I pulled it out of the water, it was like a magic trick with a scarf that never ends, and that was when we realized the true size and magnificence of this fish! We quickly measured, weighed, and then released this truly amazing fish! Return her to be caught another day, hopefully this summer!
