Best Day Ever

Best Day Ever

Timothy Steinmetz

Escanaba Michigan

This nice 21 inch smallmouth was the biggest fish of one of the best evenings of bass fishing I've ever had. Three of us launched the boat in the northern Green Bay, Upper Peninsula of Michigan waters. We motored about five miles to a shallow reef that I knew the bass were stacked up on. We had a south wind with two-foot rollers breaking on the reef. I started throwing a Storm Twitch Stick, and it was fish, after fish, after fish, after fish. Sometimes it was tough to take a cast without catching a smallmouth. Sometimes I would lose a fish part way to the boat and another one would be right there to pick up my jerkbait before I even knew what happened. The action was good enough, but the icing on the cake was that average size was two to four pounds! Most of the fish we caught were 16 to 19 inchers. After just a couple hours of fishing we probably caught about 40 smallmouths. The big fish of the evening was the 21 incher in the picture. That wasn't the end of the night either. After dark we proceeded to catch 10 nice walleyes. It was an evening of fishing that I will not soon forget. That's for sure!
