Each year since 1992 — 20,000 to 25,000 ice holes and counting, are cut for the Brainerd, Minnesota, JC's Ice Fishing Extravaganza, the largest charitable ice-fishing contest of it's kind, with an annual attendance of more than 10,000. Last year, 30 two-man teams manned StikeMaster Lazer Mag augers, with their 2.5-hp Solo engines and 8-inch stainless-steel blades, running them for 8 hours to cut the necessary holes, surely a record for enduring performance. It takes the drillers, who trade off during the day, about 10 to 15 seconds to drill each hole through an average of 24 inches of ice.
