Timely Hot Spots IF2805
MANITOBA: GOLDEN EAGLE LODGE Walleyes & Pike--Thirty miles southeast of Lynn Lake lies Golden Eagle Lodge, home to superb wilderness lodging and 40-plus-inch pike and so many 20-inch-plus walleyes that your arms will tire. GREEN LAKE: MINNESOTA Smallmouths--Peaking fishing occurs during early June, but fishing remains good all summer and peaks again during fall. Also a heavily stocked walleye lake. CLINTON LAKE: ILLINOIS Hybrid Stripers--This reservoir just south of Bloomington is on track to become one of the Midwest's top spots for big hybrids. Fish pushing past 10 pounds should be common this year. Contact: Boondock Grill & Bait, 217-935-0925; Guide Bryce Ashenfelter, 217-763-8601.


LAKE ST. CLAIR: ONTARIO Muskies--Focusing on the Canadian section this time, beginning the last weekend in June, trollers fish the southwestern shore, before the action begins to swing steadily eastward. By midsummer the shoals off the mouth of the Thames River and an area called "the wall" yield top catches. Multiple-fish days are the norm, and it takes fish surpassing 50 inches to be noteworthy. JORDANELLE RESERVOIR: UTAH Smallmouths--Jordanelle Reservoir, near Park City has become a top trophy fishery with many 4- to 5-pound fish. There's always a fair shot at a 6-pounder. June and July are prime time. Contact: Jim Gunderson, Fish Tech Outfitters, 801-272-8808.
