I operate a catch and release guide service at Bluewater Lake State Park targeting these gentle giants. On this day I had a couple clients throwing topwater lures and catching a couple fish when I had a hunch. i switched one of the anglers up to a different style topwater and made a short cast to show him how to retrieve the lure properly. We're watching the lure come in and I'm giving instructions and having him watch so he can repeat the same action when this fish comes from nowhere and absolutely crushes the bait only 20 feet from the boat. I set the hook and kept the line tight as I maneuvered around on the boat to get a better look at how good she was hooked. Once I saw she was buttoned up well I yelled "Here, here", one of the guys with me said, "wheres the net", and I said, "NO GET THE ROD"! He grabbed the rod and I opened my Frabill Stowmaster and scooped the fish. What an epic moment, although I felt bad about being the one who was holding the rod when it happened my customer understood and said "hell, I wouldn't have done that with that lure so no worries, I'm just glad to see one that big!"
