We tried to put in a full day fishing on the last day of our annual muskie fishing trip to Canada but Mother Nature had other ideas. My fishing partner and I each caught a mid-30" muskie late morning just before rain showers and high winds moved in. The winds eventually blew us off the lake and as evening approached without the wind calming, we considered putting the boat on the trailer instead of in the morning. But then within a matter of minutes the lake went from deadly to flat calm just about 30 minutes before sunset. We headed out one last time to try and catch a monster before nightfall.
We motored to our favorite spot, a large weed flat adjacent to the main basin, and started casting. With the sun already set and it getting dark, I made my customary announcement of "3 more casts" and lets head in. On what would have normally been my second last cast of the trip, this big girl hit about 20' from the boat. She was in and out of the net three times before we were able to land her. She was very clean and healthy and appeared to have never been caught before. She's my biggest muskie to date and was released successfully. Cast #2 of 3 ended up being my last cast of the trip and a perfect way to end a 7-day fishing trip.
