Doomsday Tackle Company's Devastator 3.8

In our never-ending quest to publish gear guides that focus upon various kinds of soft-plastic finesse baits that Midwest finesse anglers can affix to a small mushroom-style jig, we crossed paths with Will Stewart and Doomsday Tackle Company of Chatham, Virginia. And he unveiled several baits for us to feature, and one of them is the Devastator 3.8.

It is a multifaceted bait, exhibiting some of the characteristics of a creature bait, crayfish, twin-tail grub, and a stickbait.

It is about 3 3/4 inches long.

Its torso is slim, and rather than being rounded, like most stickbaits, it is six-sided. There is a hook slot situated along the back or dorsal portion of its torso. The dorsal and sides of the torso are encompassed with a multitude of minute ribs. Its belly is smooth skinned. Five small and slender appendages radiate off of each side of its torso.

The end of its tail is flat, which allows it to lie flush to the back of a mushroom-style jig.

Its head is dome-shaped, and the tip of its head is endowed with two small protrusions. Two large appendages radiate from the side of its head. These appendages are V-shaped, and as the tips of these appendages meet one another, they form a heart-shaped appearance.  The folks at Doomsday call these appendages "arms," and they describe them as being flanged. They are said to "flap erratically at any speed" of the retrieves that anglers employ.

In addition to exhibiting an array of gyrations and undulations, Stewart says the Devastator is durable enough to "withstand a tremendous amount of abuse from aggressive fish."

It is available in the following colors: Beat Down, DM Good, Dirty, Green Pumpkin, Muddy Bayou, Pearly White, Spiced Pumpkin, and Watermelon Red.

It is impregnated with a significant amount of salt, and it weighs a quarter of an ounce.

In a press release, it was said that anglers can employ it on a variety of rigs: a flipping jig, a pitching jig, a Carolina rig, a Neko rig, a Chatterbait, and a swimming jig. Elsewhere, it was proclaimed that it can be used from the "most intense power fishing techniques all the way down to the most delicate of finesse applications." Of course, Midwest finesse anglers will rig it on a mushroom-style jig. They will opt for 1/32-, 1/16-, and 3/32-ounce jigs with small hooks, which will be exposed when they are affixed to the Devastator.

Most of the time, Midwest finesse anglers will amputate about an inch from the tail or anus end of the Devastator, making it a 2 3/4-inch or three-inch bait, and they will present it to their black bass quarries by employing all six of the standard Midwest finesse retrieves.
