PWT Angler of the Year
Chip Leer

Tournament Director
As the PWT Tournament Director, Leer will be responsible for conducting all fishing tournaments from administrative and operational policies, procedures, and rules to enforcing compliance with all tournament rules and regulations. In addition, he will oversee angler recruitment and relations, purse payouts, on site volunteers, and all matters relating to tournament safety.

As an innovative promoter and educator with a deep passion for the sport of fishing, Leer has found effective ways to communicate his dedication to fishing. He guided and formed an organization of guides on Leech Lake, The Leech Lake Guide Coalition. He established and grew a local walleye tournament to one of the largest in the country. His tournament experience includes that of competitor, event emcee, promoter, and TV Host for the Minnesota Pro/Am Bass Tour.

Most recently, Leer was the owner and recognizable face of Fishing the WildSide and Fishing the WildSide ON ICE, the first-ever exclusive ice fishing TV series, as well as creating one of the first interactive on-line digital magazines.

According to In-Fisherman Publisher, Steve Hoffman, "Chip is ideally suited to successfully meet the challenges ahead. He brings a wealth of valuable experience to this demanding job. We're pleased to have him onboard."

“Chip's solid reputation as a promoter, communicator and leader will be a valuable asset to the PWT. He's passionate about fishing, our natural resources, and the growth of the sport of fishing,” said Jim Kalkofen, executive director of the PWT.

“As PWT Tournament Director I am committed to providing a fair, competitive environment for the world’s best walleye anglers, while offering a stage where manufacturer’s innovations shine and modern walleye fishermen benefit from the tactics refined on the Trail,” said Leer. “Although I 'm humbled to have been chosen for this responsibility, I can’t wait to get moving. This is going to be a lot of fun.”

For over thirty years, In-Fisherman has been the communications leader in the freshwater fishing industry through the integration of publications, television, radio, books, videos, fishing tournaments and the Internet.
