PWT Angler of the Year

Mike Gofron Hits Another Milestone

Mike Gofron added another milestone to his illustrious career recently in Russell Springs, Kentucky: He’s the first In-Fisherman PWT Pro to have 30 top-ten finishes.

Reflecting on Mike’s career, the stats speak for themselves. In 1992 he began fishing with the In-Fisherman Professional Walleye Trail and finished fourth at the Mercury Championship in Port Clinton, Ohio. For every season Mike’s fished, he’s the only Pro angler who has finished with a top-ten in that year.

Mike’s currently the second highest in PWT career money earnings, at $455,418. He achieved this amount with those top-tens and by capturing tournament wins and award honors. In 1999, Mike won the Johnsonville Brats Angler of the Year Award, valued at $20,000, and had five top-ten finishes. Continuing his success into 2000, he won at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, cashing a check valued at $50,500.  He also won the 2001 Mercury Championship on the Missouri River in North Dakota and banked $101,000. A first for PWT pros was Bull Shoals Lake in Arkansas: Mike fished his way to a first-place finish worth $63,818. He’s also been awarded two Optima Batteries Awards, with the best score for two different seasons.

Currently, the 2005 PWT season has completed three events and is pleased to announce that seven Touring pros have cashed checks in every event: Mike Gofron, Perry Good, Mark Martin, Scott Glorvigen (has won 10 money finishes in a row), Mark Brumbaugh, Bill Ortiz and Todd Frank. Todd’s also the current leader in the Johnsonville Brats Angler of the Year race, with Bill Ortiz right behind him in second.

Gary Parsons, another Touring pro who always seems to be on the heels of the Angler of the Year race, has two top-tens in the last two events. He’s pushing hard for career win number four and is most likely gearing up for the Mercury Pro-Am on Lake Oahe in Mobridge, South Dakota, which he has won three times before. Look for Gary in Mobridge.

The Professional Walleye Trail is heading to the Lund Pro-Am in Bay City, Michigan, June 29 through July 1, 2005. Stay caught-up in all our Angling news at www.professionalwalleyetrail.com and watch our weigh-ins live on the Mercury Real-Time Live Leaderboard……See you on the Trail.
