For anglers who want to know how, when, and where Midwest finesse anglers caught largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, and spotted bass in Julys of the past, we have assembled a short bibliography (with Internet links) to our July guides to Midwest finesse fishing for 2012, 2013, and 2014 .
We have also included a link to our "Month-by-Month Guide to Midwest Finesse for Bass," in which we wrote a 780-word synopsis about fishing in July in northeastern Kansas before 2012. Within those 780 words, we noted that our historical average is 31 bass an outing in July, and 69 is the most that we have caught in four hours. We also reported that the last week of July is traditionally more fruitful than its first three weeks.
What's more, it needs to be pointed out that since 2012 I have not been on the water in July (for a variety of reasons) as regularly as I am during other months of the year. For instance, I fished seriously only six times for a total of 18 hours in July of 2012. My other July outings were focused on helping our kids and grandkids catch largemouth bass and smallmouth bass. During those six serious outings in July of 2012, I and several of my partners inveigled 215 largemouth and smallmouth bass, which was an average of 35.8 largemouth and smallmouth bass an outing and 11.9 an hour. But in 2011, I had more serious hours afloat, and my partners and I eked out 400 largemouth bass for an average of 33.3 an outing.
Besides my logs and the ones from other northeastern Kansas anglers, our July guides feature logs from Arkansas, Canada, Indiana, Missouri, North Carolina, and Texas. And as increasing numbers of anglers across the nation become serious Midwest finesse practitioners, we suspect that we will be publishing logs in our monthly guides from other locales. And if any readers are interested in contributing logs, please call Wendy Shamp at In-Fisherman at 218-829-1648, and she will tell me how to contact you.
