Simms ExStream Hooded Jacket
Description and Application: The Simms jacket combines advanced stitchless-quilt construction with PrimaLoft Thermuplume insulation for maximum warmth and mobility under raingear, waders without the constructing bulk. The fully insulated hood with an elastic binding holds tight to your neck and head while blocking out the elements. Zippered handwarmer pockets come standard, and the right pocket is self-stowing with a dual sliders for easy reversible storage and al low-profile stretch elastic-bound cuff. It’s available in sizes Small through 3XL and a cool blue, gold and black colors.
Staff Perspective: The idea of a decent layer between a hoody and outer rain-jacket shell is a good one. One of the biggest secrets to effective layering is lightweight, but warmth maintaining outers. The Simms ExStream Hooded Jacket not only works well when dealing with uncomfortable conditions, but it makes a fine going-to-town jacket, too. Mobility is an important feature for me. Many jackets don’t provide enough arm rotation and the base lifts up when you raise your arms—this one doesn’t do that, and that counts in my book.
Cost: $279.95
