The AFTCO Walleye Throwdown will again be part of the South Dakota Walleye Classic in 2026 with the angler catching the biggest walleye across the two-day event taking home a new pickup truck.
This year's event is scheduled for July 25-26 in Akaska, S.D., at Lake Oahe.
The heaviest walleye caught during last year's derby was a 13.95-pound specimen landed by Toby Hofer, who took home $15,000 in cash. This year, the top fish will earn the keys to a Ford Maverick truck.
In addition to the chase for the ultimate big-fish prize, there will be eight bi-hourly payouts during the event for additional prizes. Each day of competition includes four bi-hourly weigh-ins, giving anglers multiple chances to win every day. Multiple special prizes are available for fish of all sizes as well. Cash prizes will also be paid for the largest walleye caught from a pontoon boat, the biggest walleye caught by a youth angler and the highest-placing female angler will also take home a prize. There will also be exact weight awards at 3.00 pounds, 4.00 pounds, and 5.00 pounds, each paying $1,000 for the walleye closest to each exact weight.
