The Ugly Stik GX2 rod has reeled in the 2024 ICAST Best of Category for Freshwater Rod, the GX2 “continues its reign as America's favorite fishing rod,” according to a press release from Ugly Stik.
The GX2 retains the core features that earned it the ICAST award, including the Ugly Tech construction and Clear Tip design. And it boasts several improvements designed to enhance user experience.
The one-piece stainless steel Ugly Tuff guides now feature a proprietary PVD coating, increasing wear resistance and preventing corrosion. A new rubberized diamond EVA handle provides a secure and comfortable grip in wet conditions. The redesigned reel seat promises better feel and sensitivity, while multi-piece rods now have alignment markings for easier assembly.
Ugly Stik is also reintroducing the GX2 series of rod/reel combos that feature the above-mentioned rods with spinning, baitcast, and spincast reels. The spinning reels are redesigned with a larger handle knob, a 3+1 bearing system, machined double anodized aluminum spool, oversized bail wire, and compression bail springs. The baitcasters offer a five-bearing system, a star drag with clicker, aluminum spool and tension knob, Duragear brass gear, the Magtrax brake system and more. The spincast reels boast two bearings, a zinc alloy handle arm, ABS cone, handle knobs and molded thumb button, and come pre-spooled with 6-pound Stren line.
