KastKing's MaxThin8 Superior Braid

KastKing's MaxThin8 Superior Braid

MaxThin 8 v1 (2)

On Dec. 9, Eposeidon Outdoor Adventure, Inc. of Garden City, New York, announced that they have a new braided line that ought to catch the fancy of a goodly number of Midwest finesse anglers. It is called KastKing MaxThin8 Superior Braid.

According to Tom Gahan, who is Eposeidon's marketing director, it is super thin, super strong, and silky smooth. It is thinner than KastKing's Mega8, which we featured in a previous gear guide, where we noted that the diameter of the 20-pound-test Mega8 is the same diameter as the six-pound-test braided line of another top-of-the-line manufacturer. The diameter of the 16-pound-test MaxThin8's is .005 inches; the diameter of the 22 pound test is .006 inches, the diameter of the 25 pound test is .0o7 inches. (It is interesting to note that the diameter of the six-pound-test braided line of a much heralded brand is .006 inches, and the diameter of the 10-pound-test braided line of another popular brand is .006 inches.)

After working with a variety of engineers who developed a unique formula and a high-tech manufacturing process, KastKing was able to manufacture an eight-strand braided fishing line that is up to 30 percent thinner than other brands, and Gahan exclaims that it does not sacrifice one iota of strength.

Because it is smoother and more resilient than other braided lines, Gahan says it casts better than the other braided lines.

Its thin diameter is an asset when an angler is plying deep-water lairs and in current situations. Its thinness also helps anglers when they are plying wind-blown locales; it slices through the wind, which helps to reduce the bow in the line that the wind creates and fouls an angler's abilities to properly execute an alluring retrieve. In addition to slicing through the wind and current, Gahan says it slices through submerged aquatic vegetation.

Gahan's calculations indicate that it has a lower cost per yard than many of the other top-of-the-line braided lines.

It is manufactured in a hue that is called Aqua Green. It is available in the following sizes: 16, 22, 25, 30, 40, 50, and 60 pound test.

The suggested retail price for a 165-yard spool is $32.98, but Gahan says anglers will be able to purchase it in the mid-20-dollar range at several online retailers.
