Pure Fishing introduced its new Berkley Flicker Shad Pro Series Crankbaits to the angling world at the Bassmaster Classic in February.
Since the conception of Midwest finesse fishing in the 1950s, a small jig dressed with a small soft-plastic bait has been the keystone of this finesse tactic. But as more and more anglers have become devotees or at least part-time devotees of Midwest finesse tactics, they have added a touch of versatility to the traditional repertoire, and they do that by periodically wielding some small hard-body baits, such as the Flicker Shad Pro.
Thus, Midwest finesse anglers who occasionally employ small crankbaits will be interested in examining and working with the 1 5/8-inch and two-inch models. And, of course, they will be employing these Flicker Shad Pros on the same spinning rods, reels, and lines that they use with a small jig dressed with a small soft-plastic bait.
The Flicker Shad Pro is endowed with several built-in rattles that accentuate its auditory function, and the folks at Berkley describe its action as rattling, rolling, and flickering.
The 1 5/8-incher weighs one-eighth of an ounce, and it can dive into eight feet of water. The two-incher weighs three-sixteenths of an ounce, and it can dive into 11 feet of water. Before these baits are packaged each one is tested in a tank to make sure that it moves correctly in the water.
It is equipped with three split rings. One of the split rings is a line-tie on the bill, and two are used to attach a pair of black chrome Mustad Ultra Point treble hooks to the bait’s belly.
In essence, the Flicker Shad Pro is an updated rendition of the original Flicker Shad that Berkley created about six years ago. What separates this new model from the old one is a series of new color schemes.
It is manufactured in two different color styles. Berkley calls one Flashy, and the other is called Slick. The Flashy one is adorned with translucent colors and a holographic sheen. Opaque colors with a holographic sheen embellish the Slick model. The belly of the Flashy motif is transparent, which exposes the built-in rattles. The Flashy is not manufactured in the 1 5/8-inch size.
There are nine Slick hues: Slick Chartreuse Pearl, Slick Firetiger, Slick Green Pearl, Slick Mouse, Slick Purple Bengal, Slick Purple Candy, Slick Purple Pearl, Slick Racy, and Slick Sunset. There are 10 Flashy hues: Flashy Clown, Flashy Ghost, Flashy Perch, Flashy Pink, Flashy Purple Candy, Flashy Purple Tiger, Flashy Red, Flashy Red Perch, Flashy Silver, and Flashy Sunset.
The suggested retail price is $4.95.
