It’s a well-known fact that current plays a major role in how fish respond. There are bodies of water that are known for anglers having to time when to be on their prime locations when a dam opens, or the tide turns a certain way. Being in those positions when the prime current is happening can be the difference between a bag full or empty livewells and stringers.
One of the early episodes of Hook ‘n Look with Kim Stricker featured Kim and his son Danny diving the St. Clair River to experience how smallmouth bass (and other species) related to the current. By swimming with the smallmouth and observing the walleye and musky in the river, they were able to gain a better understanding of how to present lures.
In this Hook ‘n Look clip, see how the smallmouth use river bottom features to position for different activities such as resting, migrating and feeding. Learn how the different species of predator fish can cohabitate and even see how smallmouth react to lures that are presented along the bottom.
