Can Bass Learn?

We’ve all heard it, heck, most of us have said it. “I always catch a good one off this spot,” or something of that sort. Anglers tend to be creatures of habit. We keep a well-stocked supply of our favorite, tried and true lures and we often find ourselves revisiting honey holes time and again because we have a feeling that a fish is going to be there.

In this latest edition of Perspectives with Hook ‘n Look, host Kim Stricker said that there might be a reason for that. Bass, as he has observed during his underwater filming, seem to return to the same areas where they know there will be bountiful food sources, and they seem to use the same routes to and from those areas. As you will see in this episode, some bass even seem to be able to figure out how to slide from boulder to boulder on an otherwise featureless flat on their travels.

Are these movements and pilgrimages to feeding and breeding grounds learned, or is it something that a bass just has and does so instinctively? Stricker explores this topic and how an angler can use this knowledge to their benefit in this latest Perspectives with Hook ‘n Look.
