Berkley Skipping Jig
Description and Application: Designed with insight from veteran bass pro angler Gary Klein, the skipping jig features a PowerBait infused skirt and armed with an extremely sharp Fusion19 hook—both of which keep fish on the end of your line. The wide, flat head and bulky skirt aid in keeping the jig on top of the water as it skips back into its final destination beneath docks of all sorts. The jig comes in two perfect sizes, 1/2- and 3/8-ounce models and 10 rocking colors.
Staff Perspective: It took a while, but I learned how to use a skipping jig at the expense of several reels backlashed to you-know-where and back, but it was one of the most valuable bass-fishing skills I’ve developed. We all know bass love structure that creates shadows so they can hunt, and a dock offers that exactly. Getting a jig way back under a dock requires a jig with certain head characteristics, and Berkley nailed it with this design. I can assure you that you’ll reach the depths and beyond of docks holding bass and pontoon boats, just don’t hit the pontoon. This jig works—hang on.
Cost: $4.99
