The SilentSlip foam at the base of the unit floats, but still fits into most flush mount and tubular rod holders if that’s your preference.
Staff Perspective: There are a few things I really like about this flag and light combo, first is the safety factor. With more and more people running kayaks on popular public waters among the regular boaters, this should be a requirement across the board. I also like that you have the option to permanently affix a base to the kayak where you’d like the flag to fly with the Mighty Mount hardware—it’s sturdy, low profile and keeps the flag intact without question. I also like that if you don’t want to drill holes and insert screws, you can simply slide the foam handle into one of the built-in tube rod holders on your kayak. Plus, if you’re out after dark or during twilight areas, you have a navigation light that will provide more visibility when it matters most. A lot of innovations that only make kayaking safer and more fun.
