KastKing's Mega8 Braided Super Line

KastKing's Mega8 Braided Super Line

Mega8 Black Ops

Eposeidon Outdoor Adventure, Inc. of Garden City, Long Island, New York, recently announced that they have three new KastKing fishing lines. A few weeks ago, we published a Midwest finesse gear guide about KastKing's Master Monofilament Fishing Line. This gear guide focuses on KastKing's Mega8 Braided Super Line.

Tom Gahan, who is Eposeidon's marketing director, described it as a state-of-the-art braided fishing line. It is manufactured with eight strands of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene fiber. According to Gahan, it is extremely supple, which facilitates knot tying. Its exterior surface is exceptionally smooth. It is rounder than other types of braided line. The combination of smoothness and roundness accentuates an angler's ability to execute longer and more accurate casts. It is also fade and abrasion resistant.

What's more, its diameter is incredible minute. For example, the diameter of Mega8's 20 pound test is .006 of an inch, which is the same diameter of the six-pound-test braided line of another top-of-the-line manufacturer, and it is the same diameter of the 10 pound test of another popular brand of braided line that some Midwest finesse anglers use. The diameter of Mega8's 25 pound test is .007 of an inch, which is smaller than the diameters of other manufacturers' 10- and 15-pound-test braided lines.

Gahan says that "Mega8 was developed primarily for freshwater frogging and punching anglers" and saltwater anglers who pursue large species around tough and abrasive lairs. But the smooth and thin nature of the 20- and 25-pound-test Mega8 should work well for Midwest finesse anglers.

Mega8 is manufactured in two colors: Black Ops and Zombie Green. Black Ops is offered in 30, 40, 50, 65, and 80 pound tests. Zombie Green is available in 20, 25, 30, 40, 50, 65, and 80 pound tests.

The suggested retail price for a 300-yard spool is $32.98, but it can be purchased at some online retailers in the mid-twenty-dollar range.
