My name is Matthew and I am 10 years old. My dad took me musky fishing on a cold November day. His friend Ray came with us. We fish for walleyes and smallmouth bass a lot, but this was my first time musky fishing. I was really cold and my hands were stiff and I wanted to go in. But my dad and Ray kept telling me that if I hung in there I might catch the biggest fish of my life. About 6 hours after we launched, we finally hooked our first fish and it was a big one. My dad handed me the rod and I couldn't believe how hard that fish pulled! It took me about 10 minutes to get the fish near the boat. When we were finally ready to net the fish, the lure got snagged on the net and I thought we were going to lose the fish. Luckily, Ray reach over and hauled the fish into the boat. When we had the fish in the boat, I was amazed at how huge it was! Its belly was so big, it looked like it had eaten a whole school of walleyes. The fish was 52 inches long and had a 24 1/2 inch girth. We held the fish in the water for a while and then it swam away. After that I was so excited and happy that I didn't feel cold at all! I guess it was good advice to stay on the water, because I caught the biggest fish of my life so far.
