We knew there were Carp in this lake, and after talking to some people that fish it often they said they only fish for the Largemouths, the Carp were too frustrating to catch. I asked my Grandma to help me mix up a pot of vanilla cornmeal dough; so that I can make some doughballs in the morning for the Carp. I threw out some corn and oatmeal the next morning and after about 15 minutes I saw a large shadow come in in about 15 feet of water. So I decided what the heck... I threw in with my UL combo on 2 lb Test rigged up with corn already and 3...2...1...,BOOM, he took off into 30 feet of water and was giving me a big fight. Well looks like I didn't need the doughballs after all. After about 2 hours of fighting I managed to get him into shallower water and I showed my cousin who came with us how to use the net. 1 hour later the instructions paid off...barely! He was twice the size of the net and my cousin had a workout netting him because he was jumping every which way. We got him on shore and I was relieved. I'm not sure how that net held him, I'll have to save up for one of those expensive European Triangle Carp nets;) I measured him and with some help of my Grandpa he was safely released back into his home with only a minor cut from the net. He was a great fish and a great fight on my UL Trout combo. I felt like a quite accomplished fisherman landing a 43.5 inch Grass Carp on 2 lb Test and only being 14 years old. He was the biggest fish fish of my life...(so far). I went home and straight to bed, and that is the story of why I slept through Breakfast.
