Polaris P5500 Portable Open Frame Generator
Description and Application: The single-point lift makes it a snap to move and place the generator where it needs to go, which is important because the unit’s dry weight is 217 pounds. The included all-weather generator cover protects it during all weather conditions, and the outlets also feature weather covers to protect the connections from the elements. The rated AC output is 5000 watts and the max output is 5500 watts, it features a recoil and electric starter and will run on a rated load for 5 hours on regular unleaded gasoline.
Staff Perspective: This generator is not applicable to the RV or wheelhouse consumer, but it also kicks out enough power for construction, farm and ag uses and even disaster relief. It’ll effectively run a fridge, freezer, furnace, well pump, heat pump, electric water heater, power tools, washer/dryer and more. I could give a pile of reasons why, as an outdoor enthusiast, a generator is a handy tool to have, but I think it’s pretty obvious at this point. But above that, it’s a good idea to have one around in case your power goes out. This unit is capable of running a portion of your house.
Cost: $1,499.99
