At the last minute my friend Jason and I decided to go cat fishing. We did not have much time and we did not want to waste it driving to the closest river. We went to a small un-assuming pond that has been know to produce some 1-4 pound cats. The pond is nothing to look at maybe 3 acres. No real structure or water features to catch the anglers eye. Heck if I didn't know about this body of water I would have driven right past. Do to the last minute nature of the trip I did not have time to buy chicken livers or smelt. I did not have time to catch some shad. I just grabbed a tub of G&S Cheese Dip Bait. We had just cast our lines and I was preparing to take a nap after a terrible week. When my large Thill float shot under into the 8 foot depths!! I was shocked at the bend in my old cat rod and the drag being pulled from my old school beefy Shimano I have had since high school!! The beast rose to the surface and death rolled, water went everywhere!! I was so happy to have someone with me to jump into action and get muddy landing the fork-tailed whale. IT WAS AWESOME. This cat broke My old biggest by one pound also caught at a small pond at a camp site when i was a kid. I as not expecting a visit from Grandpa Whiskers and now I have yet another vivid memory to last a lifetime.
