Berkley's Gulp Alive Doubletail Minnow Grub

Berkley's Gulp Alive Doubletail Minnow Grub
The Watermelon Pearl Gulp Alive Doubletail Minnow Grub.

In 2014, Pure Fishing introduced the Berkley Gulp Alive Doubletail Minnow Grub to the angling world. It is a sibling of the Berkley Gulp Alive Minnow Grub, which is a single-tailed grub.

Some observers say it was created for walleye anglers, but the folks at Berkley describe it as a multispecies bait. Consequentially, it has caught the eye of some Midwest finesse anglers who are grub devotees, and one of these anglers suggested that we should write a gear guide about it and ask others to post their observations about its effectiveness on either the Finesse News Network or in the comment section located below this column. In addition to it effectiveness, this angler also wanted to know the various ways anglers affix it to a jig.

Berkley manufactures a three- and four-inch rendition of this grub, and both have two J-shaped tails that radiate off the end of the grub's torso. In essence, it is a grub that is adorned with two curly tails, and according to the lure designers at Berkley, the double-tail motif allows it to exhibit an unique action when it is retrieved with either a swimming or a hop-and-bounce presentation.

Its torso is etched with scores of scales. Its torso and head are demarcated by a feature on both sides of the head that replicates a gill membrane. Its head is smooth-skinned, and it is embellished with two pronounced eyes. Its nose or the tip of its head is flat, which allows it to fit flush to the head of a mushroom-style jig similar to the one manufactured by Gopher Tackle. Both tails are smooth-skinned, and they are narrow and thin.

It is manufactured in the following colors: Black Shad, Chartreuse, Emerald Shiner, Firetiger, Pearl White, Pink Shine, Smelt, and Watermelon Pearl.

They are packaged in a re-sealable container of Gulp Alive scent.

The suggested retail price for a package of eight three-inchers and a package of six four-inchers is $5.99.
