My 2 brothers and I had been planning a fishing trip to the Boundary Waters in Northern MN since early Summer. Due to the wildfires, we decided to fish the lakes near our property on Lake Armstrong. My younger brother was hit with the flu and stayed home while my older brother and I packed up and headed out on our familiar 4 1/2 hour drive. He is quite accomstomed to fishing the lakes in and around Ely, so I guess you could say he was inadvertently playing the part of my fishing guide. I told him, "I don't want to fish for walleye or crapie, I want to hook a trophy". On the second full 10 hour day of fishing, I did what I set out to do. After about 4 hours of trolling the shorelines and switching between 5 different lures, I decided to try a #5 yellow rooster tail. On my 3rd or 4th cast, The beast followed my lure to the edge of the boat and hammered it. 6 or seven minutes later I was holding the monster I set out to catch. Thank you Jesse for guiding the way, and thank you In-Fisherman for letting me tell my exciting story. I have been catching small to medium fish my whole life, but now I'm truly "hooked".
