My 15yo son is an avid angler as I am. Over the years, I have given him all the knowledge that I could fro various types of fishing. He recently returned the favor and has taught me something. Over the past year, he has perfected the technique of Gar fishing. It is not easy. It is not set the hook and reel. There is a lot of patience and you need some skill and experience with feel. He knows at all times what the fish is doing. Seeing all his pictures and hearing the bragging, I asked him to help me land one. We went to a spot that I have seen them in the past and it was only a matter of minutes we were hooked up. It was a lot of waiting but finally the hook set and the fight was on. Jumping like a Tarpon! It was not as big as some that he has caught this year but I was proud to have taken in all that he instructed me to do and I appreciate the patience that he demonstrated. Not only was it my first, but he has hooked up a couple of my friends as well as his, which all caught firsts. This pic and submittal is a thanks to him. I am proud to have such a great son. There is no selection for Gar below. I really hope this catch qualifies!
